David is anointed King

LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Call to Worship
Pastor:
When God chooses people to serve him, he looks not at our outward appearance, but in our heart.
People:
Hearts that are responsive to God are more important than the physical appearance of greatness.
Pastor:
David was responsive to God in his heart. And God chose him to be king of Israel.
People:
May our hearts be in tune with our Lord, that he may use us in his service.
Collect
Almighty God, who looks on the heart of those you call to serve you: Make our hearts responsive to your needs, that we may serve you faithfully in the work you would have us do. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
We have not considered ourselves to be your anointed servants, Father; and so we have not been too faithful in our service. Forgive us when we have witnessed to our faith by outward appearance instead of with responsive hearts. Mold us after your will; that our lives may bear fruit in your service. In our Savior's name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Forth in Thy Name"
"Lord, Speak to Me"
"O Jesus, I Have Promised"
"Take Up Thy Cross"
FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT
Second Lesson: Ephesians 5:8-14
Theme:
Walk as children of light
Call to Worship
Pastor:
As sinners, we wander in darkness. But with Christ leading us, we become children of light.
People:
We have spent too much time in darkness. We want to live in the light of Christ.
Pastor:
If we live in the light of Christ, we enjoy a life of goodness, righteousness, and truth.
People: May Christ bless us with the light of his love!
Collect
O Father of love: You have blessed us with the light of your Son who calls all who will follow him out of the darkness of sin. Accept us as your children, that we may not try to hide in our sins, but come into the brightness of your redemption. We pray through Christ our Redeemer. Amen.
Prayer of Confesison
We want the light of your love, Father; but we are still attracted to sins which keep us in darkness. Forgive us for wanting to live in both worlds when you have called us out of darkness to be children of light. Teach us your ways, that we may learn the joy of living in the light of Christ our Lord, through whom we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Every Soul by Sin Oppressed"
"O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee"
"Walk in the Light"
"When We Walk with the Lord"
FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT
Gospel:
John 9:1-41
Theme:
Sight for spiritual blindness
Call to Worship
Pastor:
Spiritual blindness is the refusal to see that we need God's forgiveness.
People:
We are all blind to some degree and need God to open our eyes, that we may see our sin and his love.
Pastor:
Christ is the light which shines upon us, giving us the sight we need.
People:
May Christ shine his light upon us, and heal our spiritual blindness.
Collect
O Lord God, our heavenly Father, who heals the blindness of man's sinful behavior by the light of your only Son, Jesus our Savior: Touch our hearts, that our spiritual sight may be restored, letting us see clearly the life you are calling us to live. In our Savior's name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
There are scales on our eyes which need to be removed, Father, so we can see the truth of righteous living. Our spiritual blindness confuses us so that we feel justified living an uncommitted life. Forgive us for our spiritual blindness and then acting as though we could see clearly. We pray for Jesus to give us sight, that we may be healed, and live as those on whom Christ's light has shone. In his name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Amazing Grace"
"Ask Ye What Great Thing I Know"
"Open My Eyes, That I May See"
"The Whole World was Lost"
