Deafness is a problem that hearing children can faintly grasp. They can become aware that Jesus was able to take away deafness and that now doctors can.
Object:
a Bible.
I want to say something to you today while you have your hands over your ears tight, this way. Even though you'll see my mouth moving while you have your ears tightly covered, don't uncover your ears to hear what I'm saying. Now please cover your ears tightly, this way.
(Speak in a whisper.) What does the word "deaf" mean?
(Speak in a normal voice.) Now uncover your ears.
Maybe you heard what I asked you because you wanted to hear so much that you loosened your hands over your ears enough so you could hear.
I asked you, while you had your ears tightly covered, "What does the word 'deaf' mean?" (Let them answer.) That's when you can't hear. Do you like being able to hear your friends talk to you? Right. I like being able to hear what is said to me.
A story in the Bible tells about a man who lived a long, long time ago and he couldn't hear. One day Jesus met that man and made him able to hear.
Now at this time doctors know ways to help deaf people hear, so they can enjoy listening to friends talk to them. We can be thankful to God when we can hear.
