Pastor: Peter, I saw you looking in the phone book. What are you doing, anyway? Trying to find your home phone number?
Peter: No, Pastor. I know my number. I know the emergency number of my doctor. I know the 911 number for police and fire departments. I know the church office number; but I don't ... I don't know ...
Pastor: You don't know what, Peter?
Peter: I want to call Jesus! But I don't know his number.
Pastor: Well, have you looked in the book?
Peter: I sure have. I've looked under J for Jesus, H for heaven, L for Lord -- but so far nothing.
Pastor: Peter, that phone book will help you find useful numbers, but to call Jesus, look in your Bible.
Peter: I think you're confused, Pastor. The Bible has verses in it, not phone numbers.
Pastor: Listen to this from Psalm 4 verse 3: "The Lord hears when I call to him." And Psalm 145 verse 18 says: "The Lord is near to all who call upon him ... in truth."
Peter: Hey, I can do that without a telephone!
Pastor: Sure. When you call through your prayers, Jesus will always be listening; no matter what time of day or night it may be.
Peter: Wow! I can talk to Jesus! Say, where is that phone?
Pastor: Peter, I just told you that you don't need a phone to do that.
Peter: Oh, I know. I'm calling my mom to tell her it's time to pick me up. I'll be lucky if the line isn't busy. My sister is always yacking with her friends. Boy, I'm sure glad that Jesus' number is always working, and is never busy. Having a direct line to him is great!
Pastor: Yes, and you can't be disconnected either.
Peter: And best of all, there's no long distance charge!
Pastor: Remember, boys and girls, any time you want to talk with Jesus, all you have to do is pray.
