Do You Believe What He Said?

Matthew To Revelation
Object: some nut cups, some wet cotton for each cup, and a package of dry lima beans
Good morning, boys and girls. We are going to do something exciting today, but we will not know what a great day it is until a week or so from now. How many of you have ever heard the saying that "seeing is believing"? (let them answer) That means that it is very hard to believe something unless you see it with your own eyes. A lot of people feel like this, and they have a hard time believing you, unless you can show them the proof.
People have always been like this, and they were this way even with Jesus. It did not make any difference that Jesus healed people and did all kinds of other miracles; they still wanted the proof over and over again before they would believe him.
That was the reason that one day he told them how much better life would be for them when he left them and sent the Holy Spirit to take his place, while he went back to the Father in heaven. People found that rather hard to believe, but he told them anyway. He told them then, so that when the things happened that he said were going to happen, they could remember that this was a promise of Jesus. Then they would think, "Jesus told us it was going to happen and now we know that he was right."
I have an experiment that I want to share with you this morning that you are going to love. I have some beans with me that I am going to give you to take home. By this time next week they are going to be plants. That's the truth, and to show you how fast they are going to grow, I am going to have you grow them in this little nut cup with some cotton. Now you don't have to put them in water, plant them in the ground, or anything like you usually do. All I want you to do is to put them inside the wet cotton in the cup, and then come back and tell me next week if they did what I said they would do. Remember, I told you that they would grow into plants. I am doing this because I know that some of you will not believe me until it happens, but I know it will happen. This is the way that Jesus told the disciples and others about his great promises. They just had to wait until the things happened that he said were going to happen before they could find out if he was telling the truth. I can tell you now that whatever he promised was going to happen did happen. Jesus knew exactly what was going to take place, and it did.
I think that you will remember how much Jesus knew when you try our little experiment and watch your bean grow this week into a plant. When that bean becomes a plant, then I want you to remember the day that Jesus told everyone what was going to happen before it did, so that they would believe that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God. If you remember that, then you, too, will also believe that he was the Son of God.
