Call To Worship
Leader: God comes into the dry wilderness valleys of our lives and shows us a doorway to hope.
People: God has the power to transform drunken driver streets into areas of just and right action.
Leader: God shows constancy in love and faithfulness that gives us courage to commit to the hope of lasting relationships.
All: Our praise goes to you, most merciful Sustainer.
Collect
Eternal God, because of your devoted and compassionate ways, we can expect to find renewal of hope and to be restored as transmitters of hope. In the Spirit of God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Life happenings bring us into valleys where water and vegetation are absent. Steep mountainous walls close off the nurture of sunshine. Speak tenderly to our souls, O Holy One, so our awareness may awaken to see the doors of hope that you faithfully provide within these valleys. Amen.

People: Be our strength, O God.

People: Be our strength, O God.
Leader: Prize your gifts as signs of hope from a hopeful God.
People: Let us sing praise to God.
Collect
Let the way we live out our lives be its own letter of recommendation. Let our awareness of God's movement in our lives bolster both our courage and our oneness of purpose. Let us live beyond the letter of the law to honor the renewed promises of the heart for which you are the source, O God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Enmeshed in a world that seems to expect far more of us than we can give, we sometimes feel inept, O God. Help us keep in mind the approval you give us through the vitality of your always present Spirit. In Christ. Amen.
16B Hymns
"God Moves In A Mysterious Way" Tune: DUNDEE
"God Of Our Life, Through All The Circling Years" Tune: SANDON
"Now Thank We All Our God" Tune: NUN DANKET
Eighth Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel: Mark 2:13-22
Theme: New Is New
Call To Worship
New is new. It still wears the price tag. It still feels unworn. Without blemish, it shines. The much-used cannot take the strain the new imposes upon it. The threads let go. The sinew gives way. The spirit breaks.
Collect
We make ready for the new, O ever-providing God, by sewing a new wineskin. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Is it always true, O God, that we must throw out the old before we can follow what is new? We do not want to be wasteful. We do not want to become useless and replaced. We resist the changes of the unknown new. Guide us so we can greet the new with enthusiasm rather than meet it with defeat. Amen.
16B Hymns
"Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise" Tune: ST. DENIO
"Are Ye Able" Tune: BEACON HILL
"Rescue The Perishing" Tune: RESCUE
