As I lay in St. Luke's Hospital, being prepared for an aortagram, I felt quite apprehensive. An aortagram is similar to an angiogram, but instead of sending a little liquid through an artery, lots of warm, warm liquid courses through the aorta while doctors monitor the heart's action by x-ray.
In the midst of my anxiety, I reminded myself that many, many friends were surrounding me with prayers. Then I realized that it was time for me to ask for help. I prayed to God in the best way I knew how.
Almost immediately I felt myself gently floating up the path of the whitest, brightest light I had ever seen. I was floating toward a bright, bright opening, when suddenly a large, radiant, white figure picked me up and held me. What I had prayed was to be lifted by his right hand, and this seemed to be it! Such a wonderful, peaceful feeling!
Now and then I heard the voice of the x-ray technician asking, "Are you all right, Mrs. Miller?" Soon he said, "We're nearly finished."
Knowing that God had really answered my prayer, I turned around to give him my thanks, BUT I COULD NOT SEE HIS FACE: only the radiant light ... and Jesus was in front of him, holding me up.
A moment later, my mom and dad came near me and said, "Dor, you're going to be all right." They smiled, and then just faded away. The brilliant opening closed and the light disappeared.
The radiologist said, "We're finished, and we'll soon have you back in your own room." I had made it through the test, which I was later told can sometimes result in the patient suffering a stroke during the process!
I now feel that I know the meaning of grace and being born again. Love and faith are the answers.
