Aids To The Psalms
The Lord is faithful in all his words,
and gracious in all his deeds.
The Lord upholds all who are falling,
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
You open your hand,
satisfying the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is just in all his ways,
and kind in all his doings.
The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of all who fear him;
he also hears their cry, and saves them.
The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and all flesh will bless his holy name forever and ever.
Alternate View
The Singer is crossing the deep Valley of Death on a high wire. She steps forward with confidence, but halfway across the abyss she slips. God sends an eagle who bumps her gently, just enough for her to gain her balance and cross safely to the other side. She sings a song of thanks ... The Singer lies broken and comatose in a hospital, struck down by a hit and run driver on life's highway. God sends a physician to diagnose, prescribe and let her body heal itself. The Singer awakens and sings her song of praise ... A bird flies confidently upon God's wind
singing her song of life. The fish swims assuredly through murky waters blowing bubbles of placidity. The cow munches grass in the field and moos her contentment. The chorus of singers, birds, fish, cows, all creatures of God's creation join in their song of praise for the blessings of life they have received.
Reflection
How gentle is God's mighty power. God is there for all creation supporting, steadying, nurturing, caring, loving all. Creation trusts God. Birds do not worry about falling out of the air, fish do not fear drowning in the sea. Cows do not concern themselves of the economics of support commodities. Examining how God cares for creatures, we learn as God's caretakers how to care for our world, if we are wise. If we are not wise, God allows us to experience the consequences of our disobedience. Yet, God always waits for our prodigal return to faithfulness, eternally ready to love us. With a God like ours in charge of creation, what need we fear?
