Easter Day
Worship
Lectionary Worship Workbook, Series IV, Cycle C
Soul Motion
The Easter story is about the triumph of creativity.
We are all entombed with large boulders blocking our escape
And liberation to the extent our creativity is blocked or stifled.
-- Matthew Fox, Creativity
Call To Worship
Leader: Christ is risen! Christ lives!
People: Indeed! Christ is alive!
Leader: Hallelujah!
Prayer Of Thanksgiving (Leader)
Christ is alive! How grateful we are that the tomb is empty! That we, too, can be fully alive! We eagerly sing and pray our delight. We express our joy with the news that Jesus lives! This resurrection morning, we welcome new life, new opportunities for creativity, new ways to be your people in this place. We feel your power and your grace. Thank you. Amen.
Sermon Idea
The biblical story will have been read so it will be fresh in people's minds. The question is: How does this story influence our view of the world? What keeps us dried up, stifled, blocked? How can we be opened up? Will we maintain entombed places within our souls? What might open us and let in the light of Christ?
Contemporary Affirmation (Unison)
We experience the love of God
in the words and kindnesses of one another.
We know that life-abundant is offered
by the Creating God, the Risen Christ.
We live as people of God when we work for justice,
feed the hungry, and heal the sick.
The earth is God's dwelling place and
we are to be responsible landscapers.
Christ moves among humankind loving,
teaching, and making whole.
In our living, in our dying, and in our rising again,
Holy Spirit is with us! Hallelujah!
Offertory Statement (Leader)
The earth is God's! We are God's! We illustrate God's Presence as we care for this place and minister to people in need here and throughout the global village.
Doxology
Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow, tune: OLD HUNDREDTH
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise God, all creatures here below.
Praise God, above you heavenly hosts.
Creator, Christ, and Holy Ghost.
Prayer Of Thanksgiving (Unison)
Living God --
We are yours, body, mind, and soul.
Use our talents and skills to enrich all the world.
Amen.
Intercessory Prayers (Leader)
God of high and low places, our joy runs wild this morning. The days are longer and the moon rises more leisurely. Our delight comes from the playful, childlike part of ourselves and we anticipate heaven coming to earth with much vibrancy. How fully your grace is in the world!
While we are here, there are people without shelter and food, without friends and companions, without a zest for living. Play with them in the light until they see options and feel energy.
Terror and death still move about despite this morning's glory. Bring an end to war and violence. Halt the rape of the earth. Set all creation free from disease and sorrow. With great hope, our hearts open to your lively Spirit. Amen.
Benediction/Charge (Leader)
Life is not a dead end; it is a surprising journey to God. Say "yes" to life; laugh each day and unwind the threads of the world. Notice new life around each corner. Make new dreams and cultivate a glad heart! Christ lives! Happy Easter!
