Easter Day (Resurrection Of Our Lord)
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The Resurrection Of Jesus
Call To Worship
Leader: Christ is risen!
People: Christ is risen indeed!
All: Alleluia!
Invocation
Our Father in heaven, this is the best day of the year, for we celebrate the best day of all time. Jesus, who was dead, is alive, and we, who will one day die, will live again. Darkness has yielded to light, and evil has been defeated by the holy. May this hour reflect the joy of the event we celebrate, and may our lives be flooded with your hope. Amen.
Confession
Forgive us, Father, for sometimes living as if Easter had never taken place. We have allowed prophecies of doom to darken our thinking. We have wrung our hands helplessly because of the evil which surrounds us. We have allowed the pain of bereavement to blind us to the promise of reunion. Enable us, Lord, to cast aside the dark attitude of despair and gloom, and may we reflect in our lives the joyful reality of the resurrection. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Almighty God, we offer these gifts as an affirmation of life and hope: the new life we have in Christ, the new confidence we have toward the future, and our desire for all people everywhere to share this joy. Amen.
Hymns
"Christ The Lord Is Risen Today"
"He Lives"
"O Sons And Daughters, Let Us Sing"
