EIGHTH SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
Worship
LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Bless God from your innermost heart and hallow God's name,
forgetting none of the benefits of divine pardon and healing.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Liberating God, loving Christ, loyal Spirit, like Israel we can
forget our liberation from bondage, and ignore the covenant you
have made with us in the new testament. We confess our
infidelity to the loving expectations you have of us as a
community called out of service to lesser things to your worship
and your mission in the world. We have forgotten the pledges of
love that we have made and are unworthy of your unfailing
devotion. Forgive us for the sake of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! God pardons all our guilt, not treating us
as our sins deserve or requiting us for our misdeeds. Friends,
believe the Good News! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Put your reliance on God through Christ and depend only on the
qualifications the Spirit gives. None of us in ourselves can
serve God worthily.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
Leader and Teacher with all authority, speak to us as to the
first disciples that we may leave behind all lesser callings for
the privilege of living with you in daily communion and the
service of others in whatever vocation. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
God of all times, contemporary Christ, living Spirit, we give
thanks to you for all in whose lives we have read the writing of
your hand. Our hearts have been warmed by the glow of the
Spirit's fire. We have seen with wonder and joy the changes you
have made in the lives of people, even our own lives. We are
grateful that the condemning law gives way to the life-giving
Spirit. Alleluia. Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Receive our donations and our discipleship, eternal Christ, that
our daily work and our daily witness may call others to your
service. Amen.
* PSALM 103:1-13
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits --
who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the Pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good as long as you live
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
The LORD works vindication
and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
his acts to the people of Israel.
The LORD is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far he removes our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion for his children,
so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him.
For he knows how we were made;
he remembers that we are dust.
As for mortals, their days are like grass;
they flourish like a flower of the field;
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.
But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to
everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children's children,
to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.
The LORD has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all.
Bless the LORD, O you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding, obedient to his spoken word.
Bless the LORD, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will.
Bless the LORD, all his works,
in all places of his dominion. Bless the LORD, O my soul.
Bless God from your innermost heart and hallow God's name,
forgetting none of the benefits of divine pardon and healing.
