A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
'Can anything good come from Nazareth?'
was the question Nathaniel framed.
And the question said less about Nazareth
than it did of the gentleman named.
Our origins are less important
than the things that we say and we do.
And sometimes from unlikely sources
come gifts that are lovely and true.
While silk purse does not come from sow’s ear,
as grandmother said. Never will.
It comes from a source as unlikely,
from a worm that is uglier still.
So be sure to check out your assumptions
to see if they really are true.
If your prejudice leads you to label,
then your labelling may label you.
