Every Letter Is Important

Object: a computer keyboard
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought along a very important part of my office to show you this morning and to help teach an important lesson. Sometimes we belong to something that seems very large because there are so many people who are a part of it. Our church is a good example. There are a lot of members in our church. People were asking Paul that question all of the time. How important are they to Christ's church? That is a good question.
I want to show you my computer keyboard because it has all of the letters on different little keys. There are also numbers and signs on these little keys. Each key is important. Not all of them are used a lot and some of them are used in almost every word. But each one of them is important. I don't use the letter Z a lot or the letter Q. But if I did not have these letters I could not write the word quick or the word zebra. Every letter on my keyboard is important, very important. Suppose that I wanted to write you a letter and your name was Betty. I wanted to say, "Dear Betty," but my keyboard did not have a capital B. I would have to say, "Dear etty." Now many people would think that this was a strange way to write my friend.
Every letter is important no matter how often it is used. The same thing is true in Christ's church. Every one of us is important to Jesus and to his father in heaven. Every member is like a part of my keyboard. That means that some members are needed to teach Sunday school every Sunday. Some people are needed to sing in the choir, some people are needed to be ushers, and every church needs at least one pastor. But if the church is missing the people to go and tell others about Jesus, or it is missing the ushers to help seat the people, then the church is like a keyboard without some of the keys.
You are a key to our church. Our church needs you to show your love for Jesus in a special way. When you find out what that way is, then you will be like my letter Z or letter A or number 7. Whatever you do best, the church of Jesus Christ is counting on you to make it work. I want you to remember, when you see your next keyboard, how important you are to the church of Jesus Christ.
