LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Call to Worship
Pastor:
God has called us to leave behind a life without purpose, and become his people.
People:
Our faith assures us God will bless us with his love and kindness.
Pastor:
God calls, not only to bless us, but that he may bless others through us.
People:
May we follow in faith, and rejoice in the life God is calling us to live.
Collect
Sovereign Lord, who calls us to be your people: Grant us the faith to respond to your bidding; that life may become a fountain of joy for us, as well as as mission to bring joy to others. In our Savior's name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
You have called us to be your people, O God, but we fear the responsibility required of us. Forgive us when we are not willing to venture in faith with you. Lead us in a life of blessing that will help us reveal your love to our world. In the name of Christ we pray. Amen.

"Be Thou My Vision"
"Guide Me, Oh Thou Great Jehovah"
"He Leadeth Me: O Blessed Thought"
"Lead Kindly Light"

"Where He Leads Me I Will Follow"

Call to Worship
Pastor:
We have all sinned against God, and have separated ourselves from his salvation.
People:
God's laws make it clear that our sins can bring us only his judgment.
Pastor:
But now God has a new way of bringing us into his love, apart from the law. By grace, God saves us through Faith in his Son, Jesus.
People:
Our faith is in Jesus, who died for our sins, and brings us into a right relationship with God.
Collect
Gracious Father, whose righteousness has been demonstrated in the death of Jesus as atonement for our sins: Increase our faith in our Savior's love, that we may find your grace sufficient to cover our sins. In our Savior's name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
We come to you as sinners, Father, confessing that we have let our sins separate us from your glory. Your laws do not make right our sins, but rather make it all the clearer that we are sinners. And so we claim your grace which you have expressed through your Son, Jesus, who died for our sins. Grant us your forgiveness as we confirm our faith in Jesus our Savior, that we may be restored in fellowship with you. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"Blessed Assurance"
"I've Found a Friend"
"Jesus, Lover of My Soul"
"Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness"
PROPER 4
Sunday between May 29 and June 4 inclusive
(If after Trinity Sunday)
Gospel:
Matthew 7:21-29
Theme:
The wise and foolish house builders
Call to Worship
Pastor:
We have two basic choices in life: either obey God or disobey him.
People:
We have learned many ways to appear committed to God, when we are not.
Pastor:
We cannot pretend forever. Our obedience finally proves its fidelity, and disobedience receives its just reward.
People:
May God help us make our discipleship more than lip service, so that our lives will bear witness to our loyalty.
Collect
Heavenly Father, whose Son, Jesus, spoke not only for us to hear your Word, but to obey it: Convict us of our insincere expressions of faith, and stir us to obedient loyalty, that we may be sure of Christ as our strong foundation. In his name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
We have been heard to say we are Christians, Father; and we will not deny it. But those who hear our witness, must wonder at times when they see the way we live. Forgive us for our sins of disobedience which do not suport our words of allegiance. Transform our hearts by your Spirit; that both our words and our behavior will witness to our loyalty to Christ, through whom we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"I Would Be True"
"O Jesus, I Have Promised"
"Truehearted, Wholehearted"
"When We Walk with the Lord"
