Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let all who trust in God's New Covenant gather now for worship!
People: For the Lord is faithful and true and God's word will endure forever.
Leader: Neither life nor death nor even the passage of time reduces God's love.
People: Even when all else might fail us the Lord's word will be our solid rock.
Leader: Then let us celebrate and give praise for God's word forever.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, in Your infinite wisdom You gave us Your New Covenant even when You knew we were yet sinners in need of Your mercy and grace. In every way, Lord, continue to call us ever closer to You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, as we have been faced with the storms of life we have often forgotten the New Covenant You gave us, and we have turned instead to our own wisdom for our strength and comfort. Too often, Lord, our faith has not been in You but only in what we can see and understand. Forgive us, Lord, and restore our souls that we might be living witnesses to Your love today. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less"
"How Firm A Foundation"
"His Way With Thee"
Second Sunday In Lent
Second Lesson: Philippians 3:17--4:1
Theme: Stand firm in Christ
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who would call upon the Lord gather now for worship!
People: The Lord is our salvation and our rock against the storms of life.
Leader: The Lord has walked beside us all the days of our lives.
People: And we are called to proclaim God's wonderful blessings for all to hear.
Leader: Then let us lift our voices together in praise and song before our God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and loving God, You have so wonderfully blessed us with Your salvation and charged us with sharing it with all who will hear us. Give us the courage, Lord, to share Your Gospel. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so many times when we have had the chance to share the wonderful news of what You have done in our lives we have been silent. Too often, Lord, we have even chosen to call our salvation too personal to share. Forgive us, O God, and fill us again with the excitement of Your love so we might bubble forth for all to hear of Your loving mercy and grace. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus"
"Blessed Assurance"
"I Surrender All"
Second Sunday In Lent
Gospel: Luke 13:31-35
Theme: Fear not the threats of the world
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us come together in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!
People: But there is so much in the world we fear, so much that threatens us.
Leader: Why should we fear the world when we are safely held in God's hands?
People: But there are so many with power who lay claim upon our very lives.
Leader: Yet it is the Lord God Almighty alone who holds our eternity.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, You have called us to be Your obedient servants in the face of whatever may come, and You have promised eternity will be ours. Give us Your strength, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have allowed the people and things of the world to control our lives instead of You. We have sought the approval of others and taken You for granted. We have chased after the things of the world that are only temporary and ignored You and eternity. Forgive us, Lord, and give us the courage and vision to be faithful. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"True Hearted, Whole Hearted"
"O Jesus, I Have Promised"
"More Like The Master"
