In your wisdom you made us one family, dear God, and then scattered us far from one another. Now you have brought us together and we rejoice in the presence of each member of our family.
Since we last met some have been called to your side. Although we feel their loss, we rejoice because they are safe in your care. We rejoice, too, for the new lives that have been added to our number, for the babies that so visibly tell of your love.
We thank you for the children and young people who have moved up to a higher stage on their life's journey, and for the old ones who so often feel the weight of their years. Remember the in-between ones, who struggle daily to meet the challenges of life. Help them and all of us to know the blessed assurance of your care.
Thank you for bringing us safely to this place and time. Direct all our activities that they may bring honor to your name. And when our time here is over, go with each of us as we travel to the places where we live. May we all return safely, assured of your guidance and protection. We give you thanks for life and for all the blessings you give us now and always. Amen.
