Fifth Sunday After Epiphany
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: True Worship
Call To Worship
Leader: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
People: His steadfast love endures forever.
Leader: Come into his presence with praise and thanksgiving.
People: Shall we come before him with offerings?
Leader: He has told us what is good.
People: And what does the Lord require of us?
All: To do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God.
Invocation
O Lord, we gather here in eager anticipation that through the experience of worship our comprehension of you will be expanded and our lives will be enriched. Having thus been personally restored, send us away, equipped and eager to make a positive impact on our world that we may truly glorify you by working for justice and freedom, by feeding the hungry, and housing the homeless. Amen.
Confession
Most Merciful God, we know that we have fallen short of your expectations of us. Too often have we worshiped you with our lips only, while in our daily lives we have gone about business as usual. We have not loved our neighbors as we should. We have avoided the hungry and the homeless. We have turned the other way to avoid becoming involved when we have seen injustice. Forgive us, Lord, and renew a right spirit within us. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Accept, Lord God, these our sacrificial offerings. May they be symbolic of the totality of our lives, which we commit to you and to the welfare of others. Amen.
Hymns
"Where Cross The Crowded Ways Of Life"
"What Does The Lord Require"
"Breathe On Me, Breath of God"
