Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Words Of Assurance
Jesus said: "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me."
Pastoral Prayer
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, you who have bent chaos to your will and have established order in the midst of the dark deep, we turn to you that we might better know you; that we might in this moment share the deep thoughts within us with you, and in that sharing find ourselves reordered; that we might bring the chaos within us to you and in your hovering Spirit find our battered lives recreated.
Eternal God and Lord, by your power even death has died, and we rejoice in the new life won by Jesus Christ. The arrogance of cruel people, the timidity of frightened disciples, the injustice of mindless crowds, all are now overcome, all wrongs are righted, and we can believe in the future. For this we praise you, and pledge you our very lives.
We thank you for the great multitude of your blessings, but we do not turn to you and beg for more. We turn to you in prayer and devotion for in your presence, in your company, our hearts are at rest, life has a direction, and our work has power.
Grant, O Lord, that we may serve you as we have been served: seeing each person as special, observing each person as unique from every other, listening to each person with our hearts as well as our ears; helping and being helped in ways that maintain the dignity of the helper and the helped.
All this we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Benediction
Jesus said: "The one who believes in me will also do the works that I do...." Go forth as co-workers with Christ; and the blessing of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be yours. Amen.
