Pastor: Wow, what happened to you, Peter?
Peter: Well, I got into this fight with Big Bad Bill.
Pastor: Boy, that wasn't the right thing to do!
Peter: Oh, yes, it was! The Bible says we're to fight if we have to. It calls us soldiers. Why just the other day I read a verse telling us to fight the good fight of faith. And this fight wasn't just good; it was great!
Pastor: That's not what that verse was talking about. It's telling us to defend our faith in Jesus Christ.
Peter: That's just what I was doing. You see, my Sunday school teacher said we should witness. So today I was talking to some kids about Jesus, when Big Bad Bill came along.
Pastor: What happened then?
Peter: Well, when he heard what I was saying, he said all Christians are a bunch of sissies. So I said we are not sissies, and to prove it, I put a block of wood on my shoulder and told him to knock it off if he could.
Pastor: By the way you look, I'd say he knocked it off, all right.
Peter: Yeah, but I won! If you think I look bad, you should see Big Bad Bill. He's not so bad any more. He has two black eyes and a fat lip.
Pastor: Oh, boy, that's too bad!
Peter: No, it's not. I sat on Big Bad Bill until he gave in, and then I sat on him some more and asked him if he wanted to be a Christian, too!
Pastor: Oh, no! Peter, that's not how to witness.
Peter: Why not? I was fighting for Jesus, and I told Big Bad Bill about him.
Pastor: We can't witness by fighting. We witness in love and kindness. You can't force anyone to be a Christian. A person must believe in Jesus because he or she wants to.
Peter: But how can I make him want to be a Christian? I thought it was by showing how tough we can be.
Pastor: People come to Jesus because of love and kindness, not fighting.
Peter: But I can't just stand there and let Big Bad Bill make fun of me.
Pastor: Jesus did.
Peter: He did?
Pastor: Yes. He let people make fun of him, and he didn't say a word. But he wasn't a sissy. He took all their sins on himself so they could be saved.
Peter: I see what you mean. I bet Big Bad Bill doesn't really know anything about Jesus.
Pastor: He's watching you to see what Jesus is like.
Peter: Boy, I didn't act like Jesus at all. I'd better go tell Big Bad Bill how sorry I am. I hope he will forgive me and let me start over.
Pastor: Start over fighting again?
Peter: No, no. Start over with love.
Pastor: Now that's fighting the good fight.
