Lectionary Worship Aids
Cycle B, Series IV
Theme: Come to us, O Lord!
Call To Worship
Leader: Let the faithful come together and call upon the name of the Lord!
People: God be with us in all that we do and let our lives glorify the Lord
Leader: For we serve the Lord of the air, the sea and the mountains.
People: Truly the Lord is the Creator God of the entire universe!
Leader: Then let us seek God's presence and lift our voices in praise!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, You have the power to make the mountains tremble and to part the seas. Hear our prayer, Lord, and draw us ever closer to You and to being the people You created us to be. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, so often as we have entered the season of Advent our words may have spoken of expectation but our hearts have been empty and hopeless. Forgive us, Lord, and in these weeks to come rekindle in our souls that fire only the presence of Your Holy Spirit brings and let all who are around us know Your wonderful message of forgiving love is real. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"
"Of The Father's Love Begotten"
"Wake, Awake, For Night Is Flying"
First Sunday In Advent
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9
Theme: Faithful servants until the Lord's return
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let all who await the Lord gather to praise and worship God!
People: But we are not without sin and our hearts are not pure.
Leader: Yet through Christ we are each made clean and called to serve the Lord.
People: We are each one different and each one blessed with gifts for service.
Leader: Then let us serve the Lord with joy until that day Christ returns.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, You alone have redeemed us and called us clean. You alone have claim to our lives, and we ask Your guidance and blessing as we seek to serve You faithfully until Your return. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, so many times we have allowed the noises of the world to distract us from Your tasks we should be about. Too often, Lord, we even let ourselves begin to doubt Your return, and the temptations of the world begin to seem reasonable. Forgive us, Lord, and give us the strength and courage to remain true and faithful servants until Your glorious return. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Ah, Holy Jesus"
"Holy God, We Praise Thy Name"
"My Hope Is Built"
First Sunday In Advent
Gospel: Mark 13:24-37
Theme: The return of the Lord is coming.
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us come together and worship, all who keep watch for the Lord!
People: For we are keepers of the Lord's house and we await Christ's return
Leader: But no one knows either the day or the hour of that return except God.
People: Then we must always be alert so we are not found lacking on that day!
Leader: And let our voices lift our praise as we gather in this house of God!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and loving God, in Your mercy You sent us the Christ for whom we prayed, and we were slow to receive or believe in Him. Hear us again, Lord, and come now to claim Your Holy Church. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, too often we have been so like those who pleaded for a Savior and yet would not accept You when You came and walked among us. So often today we again pray for You to come and deliver us and yet we still refuse to admit the Holy Spirit into our lives. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to see Your presence with us even now. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Thou Almighty King"
"Hope Of The World"
"Lord, I Want To Be A Christian"
