Fourth Sunday Of Advent
Worship
A Call To Worship
Worship Aids, Lectionary Year B
Advent Wreath
We hear your words, "Do not be afraid. I am with you."
Lighting this candle brings us much joy.
Your love is stronger than our fears.
May the light from this wreath surround us today and all days with a taste of your glory.
Call To Worship
One: Do not be afraid.
All: That's easy for you to say.
Men: There's no telling what will happen when we take a risk.
Women: The world is harsh, and stuff happens.
All: We say, "Yes, the child is coming in our lives," and we can't possibly know what it means, but we'll see what happens.
One: This child is coming in our lives, this Christ child, this child of hope.
All: We take a leap in the dark, Lord, a leap of obedience. We trust you, God.
One: Let us pray.
Unison Invocation
Now as the season rushes to its conclusion, focus our hearts and minds away from the frantic distractions, our lists of to-do's, and the expectations of others, Lord, and instead lead us spiritually to Bethlehem. The Virgin Mary received an impossible word from you and she said, "Yes," perhaps without knowing fully what it might mean. We say, "Yes," to you in our worship today, not knowing fully what you have in store for us as well. Accept our wish to serve you. Fulfill your will in our lives. Amen.
Morning Prayer
Hear, O Lord, our concerns and joys, spoken and unspoken. From you nothing is hid, nor need be hidden. Hear us, Lord, and heal us. Amen.
Offering Prayer
Accept our offering this day, and use it far beyond its material worth in this world. Bless us in our giving; magnify your work in our living. Amen.
Scriptural Benediction (Romans 16:25-27)
Now to God who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but is now disclosed, and through the prophetic writings is made known to all the Gentiles, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith -- to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever! Amen.
Children's Benediction
I will sing of your love, forever, O Lord.
