Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VII, Cycle C
Object:
Gospel Lesson: Luke 4:21-30
Theme: Jesus Speaks Now
Call To Worship
One: Lord, we gather together this morning.
All: We are your people, Lord. You have made us what we are.
Right Side: We are young.
Left Side: We are not as young as we were!
Men: We are rich by the standards of the world.
Women: We do not feel as rich as we are.
Upstairs: We are many, ready to work for the kingdom.
Downstairs: But we feel like so few when we consider the work to be done.
One: You are our Lord, who we gather to worship today.
All: We are yours. Breathe on us, breath of God. Remold us today in your image and your will.
Collect
Lord, sometimes it seems like everyone is living the life of the risen Lord, and we're only now starting to get it. By the grace of God we are what we are, and we know your grace toward us has not been in vain. Call us to work harder than ever for your kingdom. Speak to us in the words and the silences and the songs as we answer your insistent call, saying, "Here we are, Lord. Send us!" Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
How long the neighbors had waited to hear Jesus, but his words challenged them and they rejected him. Don't we call for your return as well, yet we reject the notion that your Word is fulfilled in our midst and refuse to hear the messengers you have placed among us to challenge us to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor? May we yet, with your help, share the good news with the poor, the outcast, the ailing, that we might all be saved. Amen.
