Fourth Sunday In Lent

Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The Lord Looks On The Heart
Call To Worship
Come, let us prepare our hearts and minds to worship the Lord our God. The Lord does not look at our outward appearance, but on the heart. So come, let us open our hearts and minds to the power and influence of God's love and care.
Invocation
Our Father, as we gather for an experience of worship, we ask that you will help us prepare. Remove, we pray, our masks of pretense; take away our resentments; overcome our indifference; remove our preoccupations; and dispel our fears; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Confession
O Lord, the Cross shouts to us that you have not given up on us, that you have forgiven us, that you have died for us. We come before you now with penitent hearts to claim that forgiveness. Our lives have been so cluttered with the love of things, that we have not heard your Word of Love. We have been so emotional over personal conflicts, that we have not received forgiveness. We have been so caught up in impressing people, that we have not been impressed by your sacrifice.
Lord, we must confess that we have found it easy to judge people by their outward appearance, and have failed to look within the heart to see them as brothers and sisters, loved by you even as we are. Forgive us, Merciful God, and create in us clean hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O Lord, help us always to translate our vision into reality; to transform our good intentions into good deeds; and to express with our gifts what we feel in our hearts. Amen.
Hymns
"Breathe On Me, Breath Of God"
"Help Us Accept Each Other"
"O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go"
