Friends I Love
Children's sermon
GOD IS ALWAYS NEAR
Object Lessons and other Worship Stories for Children
Everyone needs friends to love.
Objects: cassette tape recorder, a tape recording of "Friends! Friends! Friends!" from Songs For Early Childhood At Church and Home (Philadelphia: Westminster Press, 1958), p. 116. (Another appropriate song could be substituted.)
We all have friends. Some of them are older than we are and some are our own age and some are younger than we are. What do you do with your friends? (Let them answer.) I talk to them, play with them, go to Sunday church school with them, go to school with them. What are the names of some of your friends? (Let them answer.)
Jesus had friends. The name of one of them was Peter. Another friend was called John. Jesus took long walks with his friends and while they walked they talked about many things.
I have a song on this cassette tape that's about friends. Let's listen to it. After we've heard it once, then I'll play it again and you can sing along with it.
Friends! Friends! Friends!
I have some friends I love!
I love my friends and they love me,
I help my friends and they help me.
Friends! Friends! Friends!
I have some friends I love!
Thanks. I like to hear you sing.
