Every Sunday one of Betsy's parents drove into the circular drive of the church to deliver their child to church school. Sometimes Betsy stayed for worship, but her parents drove back home, because Sunday morning followed their wild Saturday night parties. Ambitious, upwardly-mobile people, it was part of the game -- invite only the right people, all the way up to the boss. There were loud arguments and drunken laughter. One night Betsy awoke and came down the stairs. Seeing the eating and drinking, she said, "Oh, can I give the blessing? 'God is great, God is good, let us thank him for our food.' Goodnight, everybody." Betsy returned upstairs and suddenly the guests returned home. Mom and Dad faced each other over the empty glasses and dishes, and he said what they both were thinking, "Where do we think we are going?" The next morning Mr. and Mrs. Mom and Dad parked the car and during the worship service walked down the aisle to the front at the invitation to discipleship, to the banquet of their new "Boss."

Prayer: Dear God, we praise and thank you for your steadfast love. Amen.
