God Was On Her Side
Stories
Lectionary Tales For The Pulpit
Series II Cycle B
Brianna was nervous. This was a big step for her. One of the biggest steps she would ever take.
She didn't really know what she was in for, but she knew she had to do it. It was going to be a monumental undertaking and an even greater task to keep up, but the rewards would outweigh the risks. Brianna was excited.
The clock said 5 a.m. Three more hours and it would begin. Another dimension to her life. Another life. Brianna looked at her sleeping husband. Quietly, she got up, brushed her teeth, and looked at her devotion card for the day.
"I sought the Lord and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears" (Psalm 34:4).
It was perfect. She was nervous. This was a big day. But God was on her side.
Brianna sang in the shower and then considered her devotion. Yes, the Lord knew she was nervous. The Lord had heard her fears. The Lord would deliver her. This was a new opportunity. A new beginning. And she would not be alone.
Three hours later, she and her husband stood at the doorway, nervous but excited. They were ready to go through the door. Ready for an awesome burden. Ready for a lifetime of rewards, tribulation, and memories. Ready for the new daughter they would adopt today.
