God's Bankers

Matthew To Revelation
Object: a bank savings book
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you have ever been to a bank? (let them answer) Almost all of you. What do you do at a bank? (let them answer) You put money in the bank and you take money out of the bank. Banks are very important places because they not only protect our money and keep it safe but they also do a lot of other things to help people.
One of the things that banks do is pay us for keeping our money in their bank. If I give the bank one dollar and let them keep it for a year they will give me back the dollar and six cents extra (adjust figure to current interest rate) for letting them use it for one year. The six cents we call interest.
That is why people save their money in banks rather than saving it at home. If you keep your dollar at home for one year you will only have one dollar at the end of the year. So you make money by letting the bank save it for you. The bank pays interest. If you save your money at a bank they give you a print--out that will tell you how much they are paying you for letting them use your money.
You are also a kind of banker. You are God's banker. He gives you a part of his world and he wants you to do something with it. He wants you to pay him interest. He gave you a brain and he wants you to learn. If you did not learn you would not use your brain. That is like keeping your money at home. You are not paying God interest on your brain. God gave you love. If you do not use the love that he gave you, then you are losing God's love. It is not being used. There is no interest on God's love. God gave you forgiveness. If you do not forgive other people then you are not paying interest on God's forgiveness. God gave you a yard to play in. If you do not play in the yard and take care of the yard, then you have wasted the yard that God gave you. God gives us everything that we have and he expects us to use it and to share it with others so that they can use it also. It is part of God's plan for the whole world and it is a good plan.
Use the things that God gives you so that there is more of it. If he gives you love, then you love, and he gets interest on his love just like the bank gives interest on the money. If he gives you forgiveness, then forgive others, and God will have interest on his forgiveness. You are God's bankers and whatever God gives you, then you must also give to others so that God makes interest on whatever he gives to you.
