Call To Worship
Leader: Wait in silence for God, for our hope is from him.
People: He alone is our rock and our salvation, our fortress; we shall not be shaken.
Leader: Trust in him at all times, O people, pour out your hearts before him.
People: God is a refuge for us. Amen.
Collect
Almighty God, we are gathered here to sing your praises and to give thanks for your creation. We also wait quietly to hear your word of judgment and your call to turn from our evil ways.
Speak to us now, Lord, and save us from ourselves. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we pour out our hearts before you, humbly confessing that our actions and our behavior have fallen short of your will for us. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, and grant us the opportunity to try once again to be your faithful children. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Ye Disconsolate"
"Give To The Winds Thy Fears"
Third Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 7:29-31
Theme: Time Is Short
Call To Worship
Leader: God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
People: So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken.
Leader: The Lord Almighty is with us;
People: the God of Jacob is our refuge.
All: Praise be to God!
Collect
O God, we come this morning out of the confusion and uncertainty of daily life to sense the constant power of your love. We come realizing that for each of us life is short, and things are forever changing. In this time of worship, may there come a renewal of faith, hope, and love. May each one of us be equipped to go forth today determined to be part of the answer to life's problems rather than being part of the problem itself. In the power and guidance of your love this can happen for each of us. May it be so; in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Father, by our poor commitment we have abused your mercy by continuing in our old ways. Lead us out of darkness into your marvelous light. Give us power to come alive in our witness to your wonderful deeds. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"Be Thou My Vision"
"Stand By Me"
Third Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel Lesson: Mark 1:14-20
Theme: Called To Discipleship
Call To Worship
Leader: Sing a new song to the Lord! Sing to the Lord, all the world!
People: Proclaim every day the Good News that he has saved us!
Leader: Proclaim his glory to the nations.
People: His mighty deeds to all peoples. Amen.
Collect
Lord, we have come this morning to worship you. We not only want to sing our songs of praise to you, and offer up our prayers of thanksgiving, but we would be still that we might hear your call to discipleship. By your Spirit grant us ears to hear and faith to respond. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we bow before you with our record of mistakes and a sense of hopelessness. We know that we tend to do those things which we should not do, and leave undone those things which we should be doing. Wrap your arms around us, we pray, forgive us and set us free to be your disciples living in a positive way in your world. Amen.
Hymns
"Rise Up, O Men Of God"
"Christ For The World We Sing"
