Here Comes The Bride

David adjusted his cuff links and straightened his tie. He
felt like a penguin in this tux. He was used to construction
clothes, not formal wedding attire, but this was his wedding day.
He caught a glimpse of his reflection in the window as he made
his way to the entrance of the sanctuary. He marveled at his
appearance. "Clothes do alter one's appearance," he mused to
himself. Brushing back a lock of his hair, he joined the minister
at the door. The pastor gave him a nod. Together they walked down
the aisle. David took his place before the altar and turned. The
increased volume of the music signaled the wedding party was
approaching. The groomsmen were already in place. The young
flower girl and ring bearer almost ran down the aisle. Their
enthusiasm over the event was apparent. Next came the three
bridesmaids who made their way more deliberately down the long
aisle. Their dresses rustled with each movement. With everyone in
place, the organist took her cue.
At the swelling of the pipes, all heads began to turn toward
the door through which the wedding party had made its entrance.
There she was, the bride -- his bride. Her soft, red hair tumbled
around her delicate shoulders. A small tier of miniature pearls
crowned her veil enhancing her beauty. Around her neck she wore
the star sapphire David had given her as his wedding gift. Much
deliberation had gone into selecting just the right gift for his
beloved. She carried a bouquet of white roses, her favorite
flower. Her eyes sparkled as they caught his. She smiled
lovingly. He sighed. He was ready to let go of his freedom and
join himself in marriage to this woman who now waited for the
signal to proceed. The time
had come. His bride was ready to meet him, his bride who looked
like a princess.
The music crescendoed as Audra and her father walked arm-in-
arm down the aisle. Her feet barely touched the white carpet. Her
eyes were upon her bridegroom who waited patiently for her to
meet him. In a matter of a half hour, they would be husband and
wife. Her whole being trembled with excitement. As her father
took her arm and placed it upon David's, Audra placed a kiss upon
his cheek. "I love you, Dad," she whispered. "Thanks for being
there with me." She gathered up her long train and turned toward
the front of the church. Then she walked forward with confidence
to stand with her bridegroom before their God.
