Words Of Assurance

People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
All: Glory to God. Amen.
Pastoral Prayer
Almighty God, we gather this evening in remembrance of your Son, Jesus Christ, who gave his life for us. As we partake of the bread and the cup make us mindful of your presence and your indwelling Spirit in our lives. Grant that in all our ways and doings we may remember that you see us, and may we always have grace to know and perceive the things you would have us do, and the strength to fulfill them.
O Lord, Jesus Christ, who for our sake underwent want and shame, we confess most humbly that we have refused to share the burden of your cross, that we have denied you rather than face mockery, and have sought comfort and security. Forgive our sins, help us to amend, and give us courage to endure.
O God, our Heavenly Father, you are always kind to us; you give us life and health and every good thing which we enjoy. We thank you that you have made this earth so beautiful, and that there is so much in it for us to love, and so many things to make us happy. May we think of this world as your world, and remember that you are on earth as in heaven. Since you are always near to take care of us, may we never be afraid, except of grieving you and robbing ourselves or others of the gladness of life.
God of truth, free us from all hypocrisy and dishonesty. May all that we say and do issue from a trained and understanding love deep within us. May we respond wisely and unselfishly to the immediate needs of those around us and throughout the world. May we labor for goodness here and now in our daily contacts with others. As we profess brotherhood, may we be a brother or sister to all persons, especially to those who least attract us. As we cherish freedom may we restrain ourselves so that we do not interfere with the rights and privileges of our fellows. As we cry for justice, may we practice fairness in all our relations and activities. As we yearn for love to rule the world, may we be severe with our own faults, and gentle with the failings of others. O God, make our thinking a brave and active part of your saving truth.
We ask it in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Benediction
Go in peace. May Jesus Christ, who for our sake became obedient unto death, even death on a cross, keep you and strengthen you this night and forever; and the blessing of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with you. Amen.
