1. Why did Jairus ask Jesus for help?
2. What had happened just before Jesus arrived at Jairus' home?
3. What did Jesus do for the little girl?
Narrator: When Jesus landed on the northwest side of Lake Galilee, he was met by a large crowd. People with all sorts of urgent needs crowded around him, pleading for his help. Among them was a man named Jairus who made a desperate plea.
Jairus: Jesus, Master, my twelve-year-old daughter is sick, actually she's dying. You're my only hope. Have mercy on us. Come to my home and heal her. Oh, please! Please come.
Jesus: I will come, my friend. Lead the way.
Peter: Okay, folks, the Master is first going to the home of this man with a sick daughter. If you'll just step aside. Time is of critical importance. The child is dying. Please, give way.
Narrator: As Jesus made his way through the throng, the people pressed in from all sides, pleading with Jesus for help, but there was one woman who had suffered from an illness for twelve years. She had spent all her money on doctors, but nothing helped. She was frantic for Jesus to help. She reached out and touched Jesus as he walked by. Instantly she was healed. But then Jesus suddenly paused.
Jairus: (pleads) Lord, why are you stopping? Every second counts. My daughter is dying.
Jesus: Someone touched me and healing power went out from me. I must talk to that person.
Peter: How in blazes can we know who touched you with all these people crushing in around you?
Narrator: The woman came forward, thanking Jesus for her healing.
Jairus: Now, can we move on? Please hurry, lest it be too late.
Peter: How much further to your home?
Jairus: We're almost there. We've just come within sight.
Peter: I hear some wailing. What's happened?
Jairus: Oh, God, I fear the worst.
Woman 1: I'm sorry, Jairus; there's tragic news.
Woman 2: Your daughter just died, less than five minutes ago.
Jairus: (sobs) Oh, no, then all is lost! My daughter is gone and I've troubled Jesus for nothing.
Jesus: Don't be afraid, Jairus. Keep on believing and you will see the power of God.
Woman 2: See what, Jesus? Not even you can do anything now. The little girl is dead!
Jesus: I tell you she is merely sleeping.
Woman 1: What kind of cruel deception are you trying to pull? That little girl died. I was there when she breathed her last.
Jesus: I will go in to where the little girl is lying. Come, Jairus. Come, Peter.
Peter: (under his breath) I hope he knows what he's doing. If the little girl is dead, it's too late. The family and neighbors will be furious.
Jairus: (partially sobbing) There's my poor little girl, lying so still on her bed. (puzzled) What are you doing, Jesus, pulling on her hand? Are you trying to lift her up?
Jesus: (gently) Little girl, it's time to wake up. Your Heavenly Father is calling. Get up and live!
Woman 2: Ah! Did her hand tremble? Did her mouth twitch?
Woman 1: It's impossible, but her eyes are opening. She's beginning to breathe.
Jairus: (amazed, whispers in awe) She is breathing. (louder) She is breathing! Her hand's moving! She's ... she's sitting up. She's alive. (cries) She's alive!
Jesus: God has given her back to you, Jairus. Never forget that all things are possible to those who believe. Always have faith. Now, give the little girl something to eat.
Peter: (with awe) What kind of a person is this? That he can raise the dead! No ordinary man, however great, can do what I've just seen. He must be God's Son, the Messiah.
