Object: some baseball team caps - all of them with the same letter team logo
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought something with me that all of you will know something about. (take out the baseball caps) Do you know who these belong to? (let them answer) That's right, these caps belong to our high school team. How do you know that they all belong to the same team? (let them answer) Very good, you know that they all belong to our team because they all have the same letter on the front of them and they are all the same color. That is important because when you are all on the same team, you want to look alike. It makes you feel like you are part of something that is very important. You are very important when you are a member of the team.
Jesus taught his disciples to go out and make a new team. Jesus wanted the disciples to go everywhere in the whole world and teach them about the good things that God had done and still wanted to do for the people in the world. Jesus told the disciples to go everywhere and make everyone a member of his team. He didn't give them ball caps or uniforms, but he told them to do something else that would make them members of his team. Do you know what he told the disciples to do to everyone that wanted to be a part of his team? (let them answer) He told them to baptize people who loved and trusted in God.
That is the way you became a member of the Jesus team. That is how you became a Christian. You were baptized and when you were baptized, you started calling yourself a member of the Christian team.
Baseball teams have caps and uniforms, and when you see a team of baseball players, they are all dressed in the same kind of a uniform. They look just great.
The same thing is true of Christians. All Christians are members of Jesus' team. They love God and they share God's love with other Christians and all of the people in the world.
The next time you see a baseball team or you see a baseball cap with a sign on the front, you can be sure that the person who owns that cap is a member of the team. The next time that you see a baby or an adult baptized, you can also be sure that they have just become part of God's team and that they are followers of Jesus. God bless you very much.
