Pastor: Good morning, Peter! What's that shirt you're wearing?
Peter: Good morning to you, Pastor. This is my "Just Say No" shirt. I got this three years ago when I joined the "Just Say No" club here at church. Now they have these clubs in schools, and we have just finished celebrating "Just Say No" Week.
Pastor: That's wonderful, Peter. I'm so happy that a great many boys and girls are learning the important lesson of saying, "No," to drugs and alcohol.
Peter: By the way, Pastor, I have a question for you. Do you know who formed the first "Just Say No" Club?
Pastor: Well, I was going to say Adam; but when Eve tempted him with the apple, he forgot to say, "No." I give up.
Peter: Shadrak, Meshak, and Abednego -- when Nebuchadnezzar decreed that they must give up their religion and worship him they just said, "No."
Pastor: Did that save them?
Peter: Oh, no. The king threw them into the fiery furnace of temptation, but God saved them. That's the way it is with us. We boys and girls are learning that we can face the temptations of drugs, alcohol, and smoking, but God will give us the strength to resist if we "Just Say No"!
Pastor: Very good. That's an important lesson for all of us to learn.
Peter: You bet it is. It would be great if the grown-ups would get wise, too, and learn to say, "No," to drugs, alcohol, and smoking. They would be better off, and they would be setting a good example for their children and grandchildren.
Pastor: I notice you have a baseball cap on this morning, Peter.
Peter: That's right, Pastor, and it's not because I play baseball. I want people to know that in this game of life I play on a team called St. John's Children of God. We try hard to win other people to God's side. It is because of the training I get here in church and Sunday school that I get the help I need to resist temptation and "Just Say No." You're on the team, Pastor. Why don't you get a hat?
Pastor: As a matter of fact I have one, Peter; and today is the last day that people in the congregation can order them, so they had better hurry. Time to say good-bye now.
Peter: "Good-bye now." Have a good week, boys and girls, and remember to "Just Say No" to all those bad things like drugs, alcohol, and smoking!
