Peter: Hello, operator? I'd like to make a long distance call.
To which city? Heaven, please. I'd like to talk with God.
You say that's not a long-distance call? And I can call direct? Oh, but I've already been put through anyway? Thanks.
(Clears throat and says shyly) Hello. You may not remember me, Lord, but my name is Peter and ...
What's that? Oh, you know me well. Well, I was just wondering if it would be all right to talk with you for a while?
Really? I can talk to you any time and from any place? Imagine that. Why that's very nice of you, Sir. But then I've heard that's the way you are.
What? Oh, you're welcome. I didn't realize you like to hear nice things, too. But I guess everyone does, huh? Well, I was just wondering if you'd help me get a few things straightened out.
What? You thought I'd never ask? Well, I'm asking because I guess I've kind of made a mess out of things by myself.
Oh, you've noticed? Well, I heard that you make all things new and I think I could use a new start.
(Eagerly) What? You can help? Wow, that's great!
I'm supposed to do what?
Read the Bible. Uh-huh. And pray. Okay. Share my faith with others. Uh-huh. And follow your example. Gotcha. Whew! That's a lot.
There's more?
Use some of that talent you gave me? Okay. And you say you like to hear me sing? Uh-huh. And it wouldn't hurt to smile more? Oh, uh, right. I'll try to do better, Sir.
What? You'll be there to help? Why, thank you. That will make it easier.
You have a way of making things easier, I'll try to remember that. Well, it has been nice talking to you, Sir.
Oh, you're glad I called? I am, too. I'm feeling better already.
What? Keep in touch? Oh, yeah. I will. I really will. Good-bye, Sir.
(Puts phone down and looks upward) And thanks again for being there!
