Keys
Children's sermon
From a Mustard Seed
Children's Sermons
Object:
A large collection of various types of keys.
Message: How many of you have keys at home? That is kind of a silly question, because I know your parents use keys for a lot of things. When you grow up you will also use many kinds of keys. You might even have a collection of old keys right now that you use just for fun. What are some of the things we use all those keys for? (Have the children respond with a long list of things for which we need keys. Supplement their list with the following if necessary: doors to our houses, doors to our garages, cars, church doors, bike locks, and so forth.)
What would happen to you if you forgot your keys or locked them inside your house or car? That's right; you would be in trouble! You would have to get some help! That means keys are very important.
In addition to all those kinds of keys, there is also another type of key that is very important for us. That is the key to our hearts. The Bible says that Jesus is standing outside the door of every person's heart. He is knocking on that door asking to come and live as Lord and Savior. But just as we have to open the door of our house when someone comes knocking, we have to do the same with Christ.
Believing in Jesus means saying to Him, "Lord, I open my life to you and ask you to be Lord and Savior in my heart." When we unlock that door and invite Jesus to come in, He will bring new life and peace and joy like we have never known before!
