Pastor: Good morning, Peter. Did you like your Sunday school lesson today?
Peter: I sure did. It's one of my favorite stories.
Pastor: What was it about?
Peter: A little boy about my size, named David. With a little slingshot and one stone he killed great big giant Goliath.
Pastor: All by himself?
Peter: No! God did it through David.
Pastor: Well, Peter, that is an exciting story.
Peter: It sure is, Pastor. Why our Sunday school teacher told the story so well I could almost see the stone flying through the air and landing right in Goliath's forehead. Then I could see him fall like a great big tree to the ground. I could almost feel the earth shaking as he hits.
Pastor: That's fine, Peter, but what does the story tell us?
Peter: Tell us?
Pastor: Yes, what should we remember from this story?
Peter: Ummm, I'm not sure. Is the point of the story that we need to know when to duck? Yeah, that's it. If Goliath had ducked, he wouldn't have been killed.
Pastor: No, Peter, that's not what the story teaches.
Peter: Good, 'cause I don't think I could always learn the right time to duck. What does it teach us, Pastor?
Pastor: That we need to trust and obey God's word.
Peter: Obey?
Pastor: Yes, we need to listen carefully to what God is saying to us in the Bible. And then, trusting him, we need to be obedient.
Peter: I understand! If David hadn't listened and obeyed God, then God wouldn't have used him to kill Goliath. And God's people would still be fighting Goliath.
Pastor: Well, not still fighting Goliath, but they would have had it a lot harder.
Peter: Thanks, Pastor. Boy, what a stupid answer -- it teaches us to duck. Well, come to think of it, that's a very important thing to learn, too!
