Call To Worship
When we look only to ourselves, our resources cannot sustain us. We shrivel and dry up and become so self-focused that we lose awareness of any hope that might be coming our way. We need to stay turned toward God so God can nourish us and lead us on in the right way. Come, let us worship God.
Collect
Turn us toward you, O God, as the stream draws the tree to send out its roots toward the nourishing water. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
When we are without faith in God, we have nothing to fortify us for meeting the difficult times. Help us to trust in you, our Sustainer, so we might partake of the nourishment that will strengthen us for meeting suffering, injustice, and wrong. Lead us through your Spirit. Amen.
14C Hymns
"Like A Tree Beside The Waters" Tune: SILVER CREEK
"I Will Trust In The Lord" Tune: TRUST IN THE LORD
"Lead On [Eternal Sovereign][O King Eternal]" Tune: LANCASHIRE
Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20
Theme: Why Not Trust?
Call To Worship
When we begin with trust, we filter all that we perceive through a heart of faith. When we turn to trust, we begin to ask the right questions. We accept the resurrection of Christ as our beginning point. Come, worship God who is the giver of life.
Collect
The hope you have given us in Christ, O life-bringing God, carries us through this life and accompanies us when we step through the opened door to what comes next. We come to you with gratitude for removing the weight of dread from our hearts. Through Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
It is hard for us to embrace without explanation the mystery of what we cannot fully comprehend. Let us accept your invitation, O God, to grasp the pole of trust and vault into faith. Through Christ. Amen.
14C Hymns
"God Moves In A Mysterious Way" Tune: DUNDEE
"Become To Us The Living Bread" or "Giver Of Life, Where'er They Be" Tune: GELOBT SEI GOTT
