Lectionary Worship Workbook
Series III, Cycle A
Confessional Litany
Divide the congregation into two voices.
I: Light in darkness,
II: sound in silence,
I: you break through our fences of pride
II: and our walls of despair.
I: We act in deadly ways that hurt others.
II: We act in deadly ways that hurt ourselves.
I: We run from you,
II: but again and again you find us.
I and II: Expose now what is in our hearts.
Silence for reflection and self-examination
P: God does not judge us on our outward appearances
or outward actions alone, for God sees far more than
humans see.
God sees the heart.
May his word of truth cleanse you from all sin
and may your eyes be opened to see him.
C: Amen.
Prayer Of The Day
P: Like parents who seek the best for their children, your love, O God, is always with us. We pray that we would be given eyes to see you at work in the world: healing, reconciling, and making all things new, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end.
C: Amen.
Offertory Prayer
A: When we give, O God, we discover what we truly need. Placing what you have entrusted to us back into your hands, we see your goodness sustaining us in every dimension of our lives.
C: Give us hearts to love and hands to embrace, that every thought, word, and act that comes forth from us might be filled with your holy love. Amen.
Eucharistic Prayer
P: From the swirling chaos of the primeval waters
you brought forth light.
C: One thing I know,
that though I was blind,
now I see.
P: From the mud of the earth
you created one who was intended to see what you see.
C: One thing I know,
that though I was blind,
now I see.
P: From the torrential rains of forty days and forty nights
your love glistened in every color imaginable.
C: One thing I know,
that though I was blind,
now I see.
P: From a parent's tears for a child born blind
you created many who would give glory to you.
C: One thing I know,
that though I was blind,
now I see.
P: And so in the fullness of time,
and in a way that all were created to see,
your Son, Jesus, took bread and gave thanks,
broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:
"Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this to remember me."
Again, after supper,
Jesus took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
"This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people
for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this to remember me."
C: One thing I know,
that though I was blind,
now I see.
P: Send forth your Spirit in ways yet unimagined,
that through this meal our eyes would be opened,
and, seeing your heart at work in the world,
we could no longer hold back the cry:
C: One thing I know,
that though I was blind,
now I see. Amen.
Great Doxology
God, Whose Almighty Word -- LBW 400
Post-Communion Prayer
A: Like an ever-flowing fountain, your love flows forth from this heavenly table. Refreshed on this day, may we return to our daily tasks with new eyes. We lift our lives to you, O God, and forever give you thanks.
C: Amen.
Benediction
P: May the cleansing and healing of this day continue through the week, that each day you may see the goodness of God at work in the world and alive in you. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.

Service Notes/Gospel Drama
For this long gospel reading, create a gospel drama using a narrator, disciples, Jesus, Judean neighbors, the blind man, his parents, and the Pharisees. Your liturgical dancers can enact the scene while the gospel is being proclaimed through these multiple voices.
