Call To Worship (Isaiah 42:6-7)
One: I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations,
All: to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.
Collect
Oh, the voice of thunder, Lord, Oh, the voice of silence. Oh, the voice of storm, Lord, Oh, the voice of peace. We strive to hear you, Lord, knowing you hear us always. Why should we struggle to hear our sisters and our brothers? Surely they are precious in your sight. Lord we have offered up ourselves this day and trust in your wisdom now. Where hope is needed, inspire us to bring comfort. Where your presence is needed, send us, Lord, as well. Where healing is needed, Lord, call us and guide us. These things we pray in your name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Your prophet saw clearly your Son, your Beloved, though he lived centuries before that glorious day. Why do we, who live in the gospel era, struggle to acknowledge your Son as our Savior? The former things have passed away, and new things spring forth. Challenge us, change us, charge us to be faithful to your active gospel. Amen.
Hymns
"Morning Has Broken"
"He Is Lord"
"Hark To The Lord's Anointed"
Baptism Of Our Lord (Epiphany 1)
Second Lesson: Acts 10:34-43
Theme: No Barriers, No Distinction
Call To Worship (Psalm 29)
One: Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
All: Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name; worship the Lord in holy splendor.
Women: The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over mighty waters.
Men: The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
Younger: The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
Older: He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.
Left Side: The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
Right Side: The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
Downstairs: The voice of the Lord causes the oaks to whirl, and strips the forest bare; and in his temple all say, "Glory!"
Upstairs: The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
All: May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!
Collect
Lord, we are part of your universal church that knows no national boundaries, no denomination, no distinctions. We come to you equal in our need and equal in your eyes. Hallelujah! Praise God! Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (based on Acts 10:36)
(Unison) We know the message you sent, Lord, to the people of Israel. True peace comes through Jesus Christ. He is Lord of all. We confess the lordship of Christ when we ask for forgiveness, acknowledging your power and authority over all of our lives. Bless us. Bind us together. Forgive us. Amen.
Hymns
"The Strife Is O'er"
"They Crucified My Savior"
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
Baptism Of Our Lord (Epiphany 1)
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 3:13-17

Call To Worship (Psalm 29:10-11)
One: The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
All: May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!
Collect
Lord, your voice from heaven calls us during this time of worship. Your Son is your beloved, and beloved of us also. Our sisters and brothers around the world are your beloved, and should be loved by us as well. In this time of worship we welcome the chance to praise you and raise up your people from the waters into new life. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we need your strength, yet it is your will that others rely on us in the ministries so desperately needed here at home and around the world. Just as you brushed aside the Baptist's protests and humbly stepped into the waters to be baptized, so you have smiled at our fears and insisted we plunge into the world. Forgive us our doubts and fill us with your fire! Amen.
Hymns
"Seek Ye First"
"Take My Hand And Lead Me, Father"
"Obey My Voice"
