GREG: (ENTERING WITH TWO COFFEE CUPS) Well, here's your coffee, just the way you like it, double cream and no sugar. Are you ready for this week's verse? I don't mean to lose again.
MARK: Well, I'm going to win again.
GREG: Here comes Ollie. C'mon, Ollie.
MARK: That guy is so slow. Why do we have to have him along? We only have a ten-minute break, you know.
GREG: I know, but think of him as a ministry. C'mon, Ollie. You're the official judge.
OLLIE:
(ARRIVING, FINALLY) Yup.
MARK: You ready?
GREG: You go first.
MARK: No, you.
GREG: Why should I go first?
MARK: You don't know it, do you?
GREG: Of course I know it.
MARK: Let's do it. Ollie, you ready?
OLLIE: Yup. Ready?
MARK AND GREG: Ready!
OLLIE: Ready. Set. Go!
MARK AND GREG: (IT IS A CONTEST OF MEMORIZATION DONE QUITE FAST) And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming. And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah.
MARK: You missed a word.
GREG: I did not.
MARK: You did.
GREG: Which word?
MARK: I don't know. But, you missed one.
GREG: I didn't.
MARK: You did.
GREG: You don't know the word.
MARK: No. I don't.
GREG: Well, then.
MARK: Ollie, did he miss a word or not?
OLLIE: Yup, you missed a word, Greg.
GREG: What word?
OLLIE: "Gleaming."
MARK: "Gleaming," that was it. "Gleaming." You owe me a coffee. I win again. I guess I'm the all-time champion. Next week I plan to win again.
GREG: We'll see.
OLLIE: "Gleaming."
MARK: That was the word.
GREG: Will you guys cut it out. I admit I lost.
OLLIE: What does it mean?
MARK: "Gleaming." Uh. (PAUSE. MARK AND GREG THINK. OLLIE LOOKS FROM ONE TO THE OTHER)
GREG: It means ... uh, kinda shiny-like, you know.
MARK: Yeah, shiny-like.
OLLIE: Jesus' clothes were all shiny-like? Why?
GREG: Why? I don't know. Because He was God, I guess.
MARK: Yeah, He was not only a man, He was God too, don't forget.
OLLIE: Oh, I know that. But why didn't He shine all the time, then?
MARK: I don't know. Maybe God the Father didn't want Him to.
OLLIE: Oh.
GREG: What's the scripture for next week?
OLLIE: "His face changed."
MARK: Will you get off it. We're thinking about next week already.
OLLIE: The verse says, "His face changed."
MARK AND GREG: "And while He was praying the appearance of His face became different ..."
OLLIE: How?
GREG: I wish you wouldn't ask so many questions, Ollie. We're memorizing Bible verses, here, you know. This is serious and we don't like you asking questions that are unimportant.
OLLIE: I just wanted to know how His face changed. Was it like this? (HE MAKES A FACE AND THEN ANOTHER) Or like this?
MARK: Stop that. That's no way to talk about Jesus. Of course He didn't make weird faces.
OLLIE: Well, how, then? (PAUSE. GREG AND MARK THINK. OLLIE LOOKS FROM ONE TO THE OTHER)
GREG: How did His face change? Uh ... I don't know. It just changed. You just have to accept some things in the Bible without questioning them.
OLLIE: Okay. Why?
MARK: Why, what?
OLLIE: Why did His face change?
GREG: Ollie, I just told you ...
OLLIE: I know, but you said that for "how," now I'm asking "why."
GREG: Oh, yeah, why.
OLLIE: Yup, why? (PAUSE. GREG AND MARK THINK. OLLIE LOOKS FROM ONE TO THE OTHER)
MARK: Why? Uh ... I don't know. I guess God the Father wanted it to change.
OLLIE: Greg, you always told me that Jesus never changed.
GREG: Yes, I told you that, but this is different.
OLLIE: Different, how?
GREG: Well, let's see. Jesus will never change who He really is, inside, but His outer appearance could look different.
OLLIE: Oh.
MARK: Now that that is settled, what is the verse for next week?
OLLIE: So what?
MARK: Ollie, what do you mean, so what? I'm getting a little tired of you interrupting.
OLLIE: Sorry, but I was just thinking, so what if Jesus' clothes were all shiny-like and His face changed ... so what does that mean to me?
MARK: (TO GREG) You talk to him. I can't.
GREG: Now, listen, Ollie ...
OLLIE: I was thinking. Maybe Jesus let God shine through Him all the time and this time other people saw it. And that would change anyone's face. That must be it. Thanks, guys, for letting me be a part of your Bible study. (HE STARTS TO EXIT) I love you both. Bye. (HE EXITS)
MARK: Hey, let's pray. I have some repenting to do.
