Call To Worship (Psalm 99)
The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and awesome name. Holy is he!
Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Extol the Lord our God; worship at his footstool. Holy is he!
Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called on his name. They cried to the Lord, and he answered them.
He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept his decrees, and the statutes that he gave them.
O Lord our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings.
Extol the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the Lord our God is holy.
Collect
Lord, as we listen to your word in our hearts we pray that you will inspire us in our living. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, all around us are your servants of glory, sharing this congregation with us, unacknowledged, unknown except to you. Yet their manner of reflecting your light would overwhelm us if we would look with the eyes of faith. Call us to a greater appreciation of our sisters and our brothers, as we strive to be your living law. Amen.
Hymns
"Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence"
"Be Thou My Vision"
"Blessed Be The God Of Israel"
Transfiguration Of Our Lord
(Last Sunday After Epiphany)
Second Lesson: 2 Peter 1:16-21
Theme: Witness To The Light
Call To Worship
Let the morning star of glory rise in your hearts as we gather humbly at the foot of God's holy mountain of prayer.
Collect
Lord, we know you listen to us. Today we strive to listen to you. We pledge to begin by listening to those who might be considered by the foolish to be the least of your servants - the poor, the powerless, the suffering, the very young, the very old. In their words, in their wishes and dreams, in their hopes and needs, we strive to see dimly what you see clearly. In our worship today we will strive to hear our sisters and brothers, and through them, you. This day we as your people will strive to mirror your will as you become visible to this world. Hear us O Lord. In your name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We do not follow cleverly devised myths. Lord, you have revealed to us the truth that undergirds the universe. Like a lamp shining in a dark place, we see Jesus. We love Jesus. We serve Jesus. Amen.
Hymns
"Morning Star, O Cheering Sight"
"All People That On Earth Do Dwell"
"Praise The Lord Who Reigns Above"
Transfiguration Of Our Lord
(Last Sunday After Epiphany)
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 17:1-9
Theme: God is Well Pleased!
Call To Worship (2 Peter 1:17)
(Unison) For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the majestic glory, saying, "This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."
Collect
Lord, as your children, in whom you are pleased as well, we gather in your name to honor that name. Accept our words, our songs, and our prayers as an offering from the heart. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
In the thin air of the mountain we can see for miles, yet close at hand we may fail to notice the imprint of your Son in every person who surrounds us. Transform, transfigure your children, so that we may behold how precious in your sight they truly are. Amen.
Hymns
"I Stand Amazed At The Presence"
"Christ Upon The Mountain Peak"
"Crown Him With Many Crowns"
