Call To Worship
Leader: From the depths of my despair I call to you, Lord.
People: Hear my cry, O Lord; listen to my call for help!
Leader: I wait eagerly for the Lord's help, and in his word I trust.
People: I wait for the Lord more eagerly than sentries wait for the dawn.
Leader: Trust in the Lord, because his love is constant and he is always willing to save.
People: He will save his people from all their sins.
Collect
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, thank you for this opportunity of sharing together in worship. It is good that we come apart from the routine of daily life to be part of a fellowship where we need not be lonely, where we can reach out in love to one another without fear of being rejected.
Guide us in our worship, O God, that our lives may be enriched, and that we may be empowered to be your people. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, forgive us for our indifference when things are going well, and our demanding prayers when things go wrong. Pardon us for accepting our many blessings but failing to assume the responsibility of being a blessing to others. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"There Is A Balm In Gilead"
"How Firm A Foundation"
Proper 8/Ordinary Time 13
Sunday between June 26 and July 2 inclusive
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 8:7-15
Theme: Testing Our Love
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us worship God with our whole being, holding nothing back.
People: It is difficult to go so far as to give ourselves, our money, our talents, but we will try.
Leader: God will fill our hearts, if we will open them to his presence.
People: Here we are, Lord. Fill us with your divine love.
Collect
Lord, we have great plans for what we can do to further your kingdom. As we come to this time of worship we pray that your Spirit will come upon us and make us as eager to finish the plan as we were to make it. In this way, O God, we can show how real our love for you is. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, you have blessed us in so many ways, and often we are tempted to think that we deserve all that we have, that it is some sort of reward for our good deeds. Forgive us, we pray, and help us to see that since we have plenty it is only fair that we should help those in need. Grant us your spirit of love and generosity and caring. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"More Love To Thee, O Christ"
"Breathe On Me, Breath Of God"
Proper 8/Ordinary Time 13
Sunday between June 26 and July 2 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Mark 5:21-43
Theme: The Power Of Faith
Call To Worship
Leader: Come before the Lord with all your needs, all you who are heavy laden.
People: In his presence we find the strength to go on when we have thought we were finished.
Leader: Nothing can bring us so low that his presence cannot bring us hope.
People: We trust in him. We have faith in his power to give us new life.
Collect
Lord, we come before you with many burdens. They are too heavy for us to carry alone, so we come seeking your strength and renewed courage from your Holy Spirit. Take control of our lives and give us new life that we may serve you all of our days. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord Jesus, we know that through the Holy Spirit you are always with us, but when serious illness or the death of loved ones confront us, we still feel so all alone. Be especially near us in our time of deepest need, Lord, and open our hearts to an awareness of your comforting, strengthening, renewing presence. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"Faith, While Trees Are Still In Blossom"
"Lift Every Voice And Sing"
