Object:
A section of paper towel for each child.
Purpose: To think about the meaning of stewardship.
Material: A section of paper towel for each child.
Lesson: Today I want to use a paper towel to remind you of something very important. I want each one of you to have one of these. (Give each child a section of paper towel.)
Now, what could you do with this piece of paper towel? (Wash windows, clean up a mess, help to keep your lap clean when you eat, shine your shoes, dry your hands after they have been washed, and so forth.)
There are a lot of uses for a paper towel and most of them are to help us take care of things or of ourselves. The paper towel helps us to do what we call stewardship. Stewardship means taking care of what you have and making good use of it. It also means using what you have for the good of others as well as for your own good.
Each year, your parents and the other adults in the church are asked to think about the stewardship of their money. That means they need to think about how they will use their money for the good of your family and for the good of others. As part of this church, they also need to decide how much they will give to our church to help support our church family. It is a big decision for them to make. It is also very important to our church family.
Now, I want you to take this piece of paper towel home and try to be a good steward with it. See what good thing you can do with it there. Then remember to take good care of all that you have, for that is the meaning of stewardship.
Possible Times To Use This Illustration In The Home:
