Cycle C, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who would proclaim the Good News of Christ enter now for worship.
People: In Christ we have life and salvation. Let us proclaim the Gospel of Christ.
Leader: We are called to be God's messengers in the world around us today.
People: If we who have received salvation will not declare it, then who will?
Leader: Truly those who have heard the Word of the Lord are God's messengers.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, we are so grateful for the salvation You gave us through Christ, and we hear Your call that we should spread the Good News. Give us the words to say and the wisdom to use them. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we often allow ourselves to be led astray into the concerns of the world and we forget our call to share the Gospel of Christ. Too often, we have been more concerned about what our next meal will be or how we will make the next car payment than we have been about telling others about Your redeeming love. Forgive us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"I Love To Tell The Story"
"O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing"
"My Redeemer"
Proper 16
Sunday between August 21 and August 27 inclusive
Second Lesson: Hebrews 12:18-29
Theme: The unshakable Kingdom of God
Call To Worship
Leader: The Lord our God is the Alpha and the Omega and shall be Lord forever!
People: No matter what the problems in our lives, God is still our Creator God.
Leader: The earth may tremble and the storms may blow, but no power can equal God.
People: Let our faith and hope rest in the Lord Who does not change or fail us.
Leader: Truly the Lord our God is wonderful and greatly to be praised.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty Creator God, You and You alone hold and sustain the entire Universe in Your loving hands and no force can endure against Your Kingdom, yet You love us still. We praise You, O God. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, even though we know You are our Creator and Sustainer and that Your Kingdom will be victorious for all eternity, so often we have yielded to the worldly pressures to believe our only hope lives in our worldly wisdom and science. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to remember that it is You we serve in this hurting and need-filled world. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"O Jesus, I Have Promised"
"Others"
"This Is My Father's World"
Proper 16
Sunday between August 21 and August 27 inclusive
Gospel: Luke 13:10-17
Theme: Love is greater than the Law
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who would know the freedom of God's grace come together!
People: Must we know all the Laws and must we be perfect in our hearts?
Leader: Jesus fulfilled the Law, and in Christ we are perfected before God.
People: What if our clothes are not fine or our bodies imperfect and worn?
Leader: Sing praises unto the Lord! In the cross, God's love came to us all!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most loving and merciful God, You saw that we were bound and hurting under the laws that were meant to lead us to You, and in Christ You sent us Your healing love. Lord, we give You our praise. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we have placed what we see as "right" above the patience and understanding that You would have us bring to the world. In our pride, we have lived "by the rules" as we spread hatred and division toward those who we feel fall short of Your standards. Forgive us, Lord, and help us remember the mercy You freely gave to us. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Love Divine, All Loves Excelling"
"Because He Lives"
"Love Lifted Me"
