Might As Well Be You And Me
Worship
LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series VII, Cycle A
Call To Worship
Surely the Lord is working out his will, around the world and in this place. Boldly step forward in faith as we gather to praise God for his works in history and in our story.
Collect
Lord, you raise up the lowly and least likely. Surprise us today as you call forth leadership in our midst. Grant us the wisdom to follow your prophets wherever they might be found. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
At times of crisis there are always those ready to surrender. It is easier to give up than to believe God calls leaders of the least likely sort. I believe, Lord. Help my unbelief. Amen.
Hymns
"What Wondrous Love Is This?"
"My Jesus, I Love Thee"
"Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind"
Proper 28/Ordinary Time 33
Sunday between November 13 and November 19
Second Lesson:: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
Theme: Act Like You Believe
Call To Worship (1 Thessalonians 5:9-11)
One: For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him.
All: Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.
Collect
We gather together, God, as your faithful people, secure in salvation, drawn to our destiny. You are the light. You are love. Come, Lord Jesus, soon. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Loving Savior, wrath is not your intended destiny for our lives. You want to find us, rescue us, save us. We are sinners. Call us into the light of your most holy day. Amen.
Hymns
"Awake, Awake, Fling Off The Night"
"I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say"
"You Shall Go Out With Joy"
Proper 28/Ordinary Time 33
Sunday between November 13 and November 19
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 25:14-30
Theme: Who? Me? What? You?
Call To Worship
Praise God for being God, you people. Consider the glorious works of the Almighty. Take nothing for granted. Work hard while it is light. Look forward to the return of the Master. Come now to praise!
Collect
We thank you, God, for the trust you have placed in us. It is not your will that we should bury our talents, but that we should take chances, risking failure and success, so that all might come to know your glorious story. Fit us for our task. Sustain us with a sense of your presence. Move in our midst. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (Psalm 123)
One: To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
Two: As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until he has mercy upon us.
One: Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt.
Two: Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.
Hymns
"This Is My Father's World"
"Immortal, Invisible"
"The Church's One Foundation"
