Call To Worship
Leader: What if Christ were to become the cornerstone of the personal relationships we build?
People: What if Christ were the cornerstone of our money-spending decisions?
Leader: What if Christ were the cornerstone of the way we use our time?
People: What if we were to let Christ make a difference day by day in our lives?
All: What if we lived in the name of Jesus?
Collect
O living Christ, you are the hope of all that we do and are. Continue to show us how you would have us be and what you would have us do in your name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Gracious, ever-building Creator, everyday activities distract us from our noble goals. Sometimes we have all we can do to keep present buildings from falling apart. Bolster our determination to keep Christ as the cornerstone of all our life. When we let go of your hope, cheer us on to pick it up again. Amen.

Leader: Love one another.
People: Show consideration toward our families and those we meet at school, work, and through our activities.
All: Let us demonstrate God's love by loving one another.
Collect
As we practice living your love by loving others, you, O God, return that love to us many times over. You show us again and again how variously love makes itself known. Thank you for your gift of tenderness, O God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
If we are to honor the commandment to love one another, first we must stretch our thoughts beyond ourselves. This is hard, God, because we have little enough time to attend our own needs. Remind us that there is enough love to go around. Help us reserve both necessary energy for ourselves and energy for loving others in truth and action. In the name of Christ. Amen.
31B Hymns
"Love Divine, All Loves Excelling" Tune: BEECHER
"Spirit, Spirit Of Gentleness" Tune: SPIRIT
"In Christ There Is No East Or West" Tune: McKEE or ST. PETER OR "Where Charity And Love Prevail" Tune: CHRISTIAN LOVE, ST. FLAVIAN, or ST. PETER
Fourth Sunday Of Easter
Gospel: John 10:11-18
Theme: Hero
Call To Worship
Let us be as open-eyed children who enjoy the wonder-filled capacity to recognize a hero. Everyday heroes abound -- a patient spouse, a courageous sibling, a valiant neighbor living with disease or handicap, workers who support their families by enduring disagreeable jobs, a teacher seeing hope in a stuttering student. Let us lift up the heroes of our day.
Collect
Today's collect will literally be a collected prayer. Consider for a moment someone whom you presently admire or have respected during your lifetime. Turning to your pew neighbor, speak the name of the person you have remembered. Tell briefly why you consider that individual to be a hero.
Prayer: Gracious and surprising God, you have heard the names of those we consider heroes. Bless these people with your blessing. Encircle them always with the gentleness of your caring. We ask in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Dear God, help us to care as deeply for each other as a shepherd cares for the sheep. When we become aware of someone in trouble, give us the courage to respond with our first impulse to help rather than letting second thoughts turn us away. Amen.
31B Hymns
"How Gentle God's Commands" Tune: DENNIS
"My Shepherd Is The Living God" Tune: CONSOLATION
"Such Perfect Love My Shepherd Shows" Tune: DOMINUS REGIT ME
