Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

My friends, I want to share something with you about being here today. Several days ago, Harry died. Because of this death, we have come together to thank God for the memories we have of the person.
Death is sort of a strange thing. We miss the person who died very much but we are happy that he is not suffering and in any kind of pain. We also believe that God is giving him a new life, an even better life than he lived with us.
Sometimes life can be pretty difficult. Sometimes it isn't easy to find a job that pays a lot of money. Sometimes people treat other people badly because they think they don't like the other people; they don't have a good reason for not liking the other person but they make living in the same neighborhood or town a difficult thing to do. Sometimes people worry about things they don't have to worry about but they do anyway because they don't know how to solve the problem they are in at the moment. Once in a while, we hear about people living without enough food or clothing. It is very difficult to be happy when you are hungry or cold. Sometimes we live in times of war or during awful storms like tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. All of these things make living difficult and hard to explain. When these things happen we feel separated from our family, our friends, the people we work with or go to school with during the week.
When a man doesn't have a job, his car is broken down, or he doesn't have any money, he feels separated. When a person he loves very much is sick and dying, he feels separated. He doesn't want to talk or cry, he just wants to be left alone or separated. It is a little like having a fence around you or a rope between you and other people. The other day. I saw the police putting this tape in front of a house where there had been a bad accident. We were separated from the house and kept out.
The Bible tells us differently. It says that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. Build a fence, stretch a rope, or put up the tape, and none of them will keep Jesus from loving you and caring for you. You don't have to pretend with Jesus. When you feel bad, I mean really bad, Jesus will be there with you. You don't have to say a prayer for Jesus to be with you. When we are hurting, very weak, afraid, and angry Jesus is still with us. And when a funeral is over and everybody goes home to their house, Jesus is still with you. The Bible says nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus. No fences, no ropes, no tapes will keep us from the love of Jesus.
Today, we feel bad because others feel bad about our friend dying. But you can relax and understand that while we may feel sad, our friend who died is very happy to be in the presence of God. Jesus will not be separated from any of us at any time. Amen.
