A Call To Worship
Worship Aids, Lectionary Year B
Call To Worship (based on Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29)
One: O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever!
All: Let Israel say, "His steadfast love endures forever."
Women: Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.
Men: This is the gate of the LORD; the righteous shall enter through it.
Right: I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.
Left: The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
Front: This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
Back: This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Young: Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! O LORD, we beseech you, give us success!
Old: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD. We bless you from the house of the LORD.
All: The LORD is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.
One: You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you.
All: O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Unison Invocation
Humble Christ, you accepted the accolades of the crowd, but you knew too well how quickly their adulation could turn to cries of "Crucify him!" We confess that we too have praised your name, but in our actions have denied and even betrayed you. Fill us with your spirit today, so that through the waving of these palms we might not only acknowledge your Lordship, but live in such a way throughout this week that others will recognize your majesty as well. Amen.
Morning Prayer
Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord -- the King of Israel! Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven! Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven! Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven! This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee. Amen.
Offering Prayer
Lord Jesus, you sent your disciples to the village ahead, and told them to take charge of a colt that had never been ridden, telling them if they were challenged to say simply, "The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately." Lord, you have every right to require an accounting from us as well, yet even when we offer our treasure you return it and request that we use it as best we can for your work. Grant us your wisdom in administering these offerings, and magnify their material worth for your work in this world. Amen.
Children's Benediction
