Partners serving God

LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Call to Worship
Pastor:
Christian service requires many different kinds of servants.
People:
The service of each is vitally important to the work that God is doing for all people.
Pastor:
We are partners with each other and with God. God needs each of us to work together, so that he will be able to do his work.
People:
May the service we give be in cooperation, not competition, with other servants working with God.
Collect
Almighty God, who has called us to be partners in the service of your Son: Put a spirit of unity and cooperation in your church; that together we serve in a variety of ways to interpret your message of redemption to our world. In our Savior's name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
We know you need many different kinds of servants, Lord. But we tend to regard different acts of service on different levels of importance. Forgive us when jealousy or misunderstanding causes us to quarrel in the administration of your church. May our motivation for service be love; that we may give our best, knowing that it is only your act of love that brings about salvation. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"All Praise to Our Redeeming Love"
"Jesus, United by Thy Grace"
"Lift Up Our Hearts, O King of Kings"
"The Voice of God Is Calling"
SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY
Gospel:
Matthew 5:17-26
Theme:
Righteousness fulfills the law
Call to Worship
Pastor:
By grace we are saved. But God's grace is not contrary to his law.
People:
To be saved by grace does not mean we do not have to live by God's law.
Pastor:
Jesus came to save us apart from the law, but also to challenge us to live by love, a life that fulfills the law.
People:
May the grace of God so motivate us that our living will demonstrate obedience to God's law.
Collect
Gracious God, you have saved us by grace in spite of our disobedience to your will; that our lives may become an offering of thanksgiving for your grace. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
We pride ourselves, Lord, on being children of grace instead of slaves of the law. But often our lives do not reflect the wholeness to which you have saved us. Forgive us when we think only of your grace, and ignore our discipleship. Help us to choose to live in such a way that our life style will be in harmony with your will for us. In our Savior's name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"God, Send Us Men"
"Lord, I Want to Be a Christian"
"Take Time to Be Holy"
"When We Walk With The Lord"
