Pentecost 26
Poems
A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
The time of God and that of man
are very different things,
as different as the differences
of cabbages from Kings.
Our God has worked for ages
in fulfillment of his plan,
in contrast to the quick demands
of small impatient man.
Our time, we mark in decades
while, for him the eons fly.
A thousand years for him is
like the blinking of an eye.
Sometimes that brings frustration,
makes us want to scream and shout.
But God’s view is the long one and
he knows what he’s about.
As he won’t rush to judgment
in deciding on our fate,
I guess we should be thankful
that his patience is so great.
Don’t fret about his schedule.
Just be glad he’s slow to move.
For he will need less time to judge
than we will to improve.
