Prayers for the Age of Technology

Dear Zealous Landlord:
Open our eyes of understanding to what we are doing to our environment: to the good earth you blessed us with the privilege of inhabiting. Shock us to awareness of the folly of polluting the air and water, depleting the soil and forests, wasting mineral resources, exterminating species, and the countless other thoughtless things we do. Shame us for the indifference we manifest for the welfare of generations which will follow us. Make us face the reality of what sorry, ungrateful tenants we are.
Please, however, do not summarily evict us, much as we may deserve it. Instead, give your blessings to those among us who struggle against great odds to make us change our careless, delinquent ways. And let the gift of your grace encourage development among us of leaders with the sensitivity and ability to inspire and help us become more caring and careful.
Help us to appreciate and enjoy this wonderful world, this Second Eden, which you have entrusted to us. Teach us the disciplines that will enable us to occupy it in a spirit of gratitude and good stewardship.
In appreciative love, Amen.
